Duchessalia Barbera d'Asti DOCG (2024)
Duchessalia / Santo Stefano Belbo, Piedmont DOCG, Italy (Imported to Malta)

The Italian Supermarket Staple Playing Overseas
Vibrant ruby-red with bright purple flashes. The nose is fruit-forward and high-toned, opening with notes of sour red cherries, dark plums, light violet florals, and a touch of savory earth. Medium-bodied with Barbera's classic mouthwatering acidity, very low tannins, and a clean, tart-cherry finish.
⭐ (Stainless-steel aged with naturally high acidity and low tannins; very clean drinking, so it keeps the head clear even if it's high-volume).
Supermarket pasta bakes, margherita pizza, or hard Italian cheeses.
Still no Maltese island grapes, but at least this intruder comes with legitimate DOCG credentials from northern Italy! Duchessalia is a massive co-op line out of Santo Stefano Belbo that fills bottom shelves across Europe. It's sharp, high-acid, and punchy—it won't blow your mind, but compared to Spanish Shiraz with fake fly-fishing labels, it's an honest food-friendly red to wash down a quick dinner.
