Cuvée de Brieu Syrah (2024)
Cuvée de Brieu / IGP Pays d'Oc, Languedoc-Roussillon, France

The Sun-Warmed, Pepper-Dusty Mediterranean Red
Deep, opaque ruby-purple in the glass. The nose is aromatic and inviting, opening with upfront notes of ripe blackberries, dark plums, black cherries, cracked black pepper, and a touch of wild scrubland herbs (garrigue). Medium-to-full-bodied on the palate, driven by plush dark fruit, smooth rounded tannins, moderate acidity, and a warm, savory-spiced finish.
⭐⭐ (Sitting around 13.5% ABV and cleanly fermented in stainless steel with gentle handling, it delivers rich flavor without heavy oak tannins, making it smooth on the head when paired with food).
Grilled lamb chops, M&S gastropub steak pies, roasted sausages, or a hearty lentil and mushroom stew
When you're in a country without vineyards, you're at the mercy of the local Marks and Spencer aisles—and finding a well-made French Syrah at high-street prices is always a win. Northern Rhône Syrah can sometimes be a bit stern and demanding, but this southern Pays d'Oc expression brings a welcome touch of Mediterranean sunshine. It’s packed with juicy blackberry, plum, and a nice crackle of black pepper that makes it feel way more expensive than it is. Unpretentious, savory, and an absolute treat for a chilly evening indoors.
