Contemporal Reserva Vinho Tinto (2022)
Adega Cooperativa de Vila Real (for Contemporal) / Douro DOC, Portugal

The Deep Stony and Structured Valley Classic
Dense, dark ruby-purple in color. The nose is intensely aromatic and deeply savory, opening with concentrated notes of ripe blackberries, wild blueberries, and dark plums, tightly layered with crushed granite, dried violets, dark cocoa, and a hint of wood smoke. On the palate, it delivers a robust, full body; a wave of rich, dark forest fruits is instantly anchored by a firm grid of muscular, dry tannins and a balanced, structural acidity that leads into a long, mineral-driven finish.
⭐⭐ (A structured, serious red wine. With an ABV usually sitting around 13.5% to 14% from the sun-drenched valley, it is rich and concentrated, but clean barrel integration and solid natural grape tannins ensure it remains balanced and smooth on the system).
Slow-braised beef shanks, roasted wild game, heavy rosemary-infused stews, or a sharp, aged Portuguese Queijo da Serra da Estrela.
If you want a masterclass in how to manage rich, dark fruit without letting it get soft or syrupy, this is it. The Douro Valley sunshine gives these native grapes a massive amount of depth—tasting like wild blackberries and dark plums—but the schist soils clamp down to provide a fantastic, dry, stone-and-leather structure. The Touriga components give it a beautiful floral lift on the nose, while the firm, gripping tannins make it a phenomenal partner for a heavy, savory meal. It's concentrated, beautifully old-school, and an absolute steal for a Reserva.
