Calvet Varietals Syrah (2023)
Maison Calvet / Pays d'Oc (Languedoc), France (Imported to Malta)

The Sequel Nobody Asked For: Calvet 2.0
Dark ruby-red with a translucent rim. Simple, predictable aromas of ripe blackberry, plum, crushed pepper, and a touch of roasted herb. Medium-bodied and soft on the palate, with gentle tannins, low acidity, and a smooth, uncomplex fruit finish.
⭐⭐ (Standard mass-market negociant bottling; soft and drinkable, but pack a water bottle just in case).
Late-night convenience store snacks, frozen pizza, or emergency hotel room dining.
Just when we thought Malta was officially wrapped, Calvet strikes again! If the 2025 felt like a quick convenience-store backup, this 2023 vintage confirms it’s a recurring Maltese supermarket regular. It’s smooth, inoffensive, and gets the job done when you need a quick glass of red, but we are more than ready to leave the French bulk imports behind and dive headfirst into Campania.
